Poetry Competition!!!!

If you have noticed, my father has written a lovely poem about rain on his blog
(www.gregorian-chant.blogspot.com).
I hereby challenge to him a duel of poetic genius!
He may accept or decline, but as I am not in the same place as him at this moment, I will write a poem of challenge, and he may reveal his choosy choice later...

The Duel of Poets
BreadBoxFan#1

Once...

A lady fair
of auburn hair
didst extend an invitation

To a scholar learned
with each penny earned
with laborious efforts

To he
said she
"I shall duel you this very eve,"

"And at every opportunity,
We shall battle furiously"
She paused to let him think,

And the scholar
drew himself taller,
and said "This cannot be!"

"I am a man of brains you see,
a man who will not readily
cross blades with a dame."

"But," was the reply,
"I did not imply
by which way we were to fight."

"I propose
that not as foes
shall we blunder in a tussle."

"I do not undersand,"
the scholar wrung his hands
"then how are we then to do this?"

The maiden laughed
and cried "Are you daft?"
"I do not wish to fight,"

"Rather, we shall compete,
a battle of poetic written speech.
And we shall see just who is harder to defeat!"

"We shall compose
a series, not of prose,
but of poetry, dear sir."

"Accept or decline,
either, sir, is fine,
an offer of true honor,"

"Towards your wondrous
brain, though perhaps not one victorious,
I shall direct my fatal words,"

"And you towards yours ever truly
a stream of words which shall not be unruly
may just beat my stubborn self."

The scholar's brains
pondered with strain
o'er the offer of the lady.

And still she is idle
for the scholar's answer fatal
has not yet reached her ears.

Father dear...respond soon!!!
